My mom spent the last 3 yrs of her life with Bridgeport Senior Living and it was a good experience for her - and me. She was visibly relaxed from the moment she moved in and I no longer worried about her care when I traveled. Ashley took care of our every need and is a great communicator. And Millie became my mom's favorite caregiver. I highly recommend this group if you are looking for a home like setting. The care is much more personal and it is safer than typical "facilities ". At least that was our experience. Can't say enough good things...
We were thoroughly impressed with all the staff, especially the house administrator Ashley Lemire. She was always available for any questions and concerns that come up. Ashley also expressed compassion during the conversations and made us feel comfortable with living situation for my grandma.
Edith and Gislaine were exceptional caregivers. Their positive attitude and outlook made for a pleasant experience. We are grateful for the care they provided.
The house itself was always well maintained, clean and safe. We were welcomed to visit as much as we wanted.
Our mother/mother-in-law has been living at Bridgeport for almost two years. We are very happy with the care she receives and how comfortable, safe and loved she feels here. When her dementia was too much for us to handle by ourselves, we began looking for options. The first time my husband and his mother looked at the house she was pleased and comfortable with moving there. The director, Ashley is attentive, quickly communicating any concerns but also sharing fun pictures and happy moments. The staff are friendly and caring to the extent that my mother-in-law has formed friendships with them. They are also medically well trained, especially regarding memory care. The house feels like a home, not a facility. The residents eat together, share weekly activities of crafts, puzzles, music, etc. We are blessed and thankful for Bridgeport and especially for the director, Ashley.
We had high hopes when we moved my mother to Bridgeport, her third one in Orlando. She previously lived at Vivant in Maitland, and we liked them, though they ultimately closed their doors.
It’s obvious that other people in the community have had good experiences with Bridgeport, so we chose them, thinking we would too. Initially, we had confidence in their care for Mom, though ultimately we were greatly disappointed.
All went smoothly and as expected for nearly a year at Port Cardiff. My family lives in NC, so having the staff provide regular updates and photos of Mom to us via text messages and phone calls was very helpful.
Then, things went downhill quickly.
First, it was poor communication from the home administrator and staff. Regular phone calls and texts disappeared. Any follow-up on our end was met with excuses.
When we visited Mom, we noticed they hadn’t been bathing her properly — shampoo was caked in her hair because they hadn't rinsed thoroughly. Also, they had stopped cutting her hair, though no one from Bridgeport alerted us.
Mom is incontinent, and we noticed the staff was not changing her briefs regularly. The urine sometimes soaked through her brief and into her pants.
There was also a lack of cleanliness in her bedroom and bathroom – dust on the ceiling fan and furniture, as well as debris and dirt on the floor, etc. The upkeep of the entire home had diminished as well.
We communicated our concerns to the management. They apologized and said these errors were unusual at Bridgeport. They assured us everything would be addressed.
Things appeared to get better in some ways. Mom’s hair was washed more thoroughly.
Her room and bathroom were cleaned more thoroughly as well. The home, in general, appeared to be better cared for.
When we spoke with one of the caregivers, they complained to us that we were "special" and that the caregivers were now having to do "extra work" because of the concerns we raised about Mom's care. They said management tightened many of the caregiving and cleaning protocols, forcing the staff to work harder as they raised their standards and efforts. Wow.
To top it all, a Bridgeport caregiver broke Mom’s right pinky finger and bruised her left hand when they were “helping” her up from a chair.
(We've come to learn that staff trained properly in dementia care conduct transfers to a standing position by holding under the resident's arms rather than by holding their hands.)
Mom sat at home with her hand injuries for three days, with no medical professionals seeing her until my brother took her to a local urgent care to receive X-rays and treatment.
Poor care, avoidable injuries, and negligence -- not what we expected at all from the company that is “raising the bar” on personalized dementia care.
There are some kind people who work there. Though this fact doesn’t outweigh the harm Mom has suffered under Bridgeport’s care.
In short, please use caution when considering Bridgeport.
We found Bridgeport Senior Living after having gone through two less than ideal homes for my father. It ended up being a perfect fit for him. The staff were patient and caring and the Administrator, Amber, was truly an angel. She spent time with him regularly and helped keep his spirits up. When he took a turn for the worse, she was so helpful coordinating medications and hospice and made sure to be with him when we couldn’t be. Highly recommend Bridgeport Senior Living for your loved ones.
