When my daughter first went to Alba Ct several years ago, it was so good for her. Every year it has gone downhill. They have been through 5 directors. One director thought it was a good idea to admit several psych patients that were so disruptive that they were banging on her door at night, yelling, and banging doors. One was leaving poop on the halls and floor. The air conditioner has been broken for one year, the elevators break down all the time. In fact, both are down as I am writing this. Maintenance doesn't fix things, the med techs don't stay on the floor they are assigned to and go off in pairs wherever and whenever. They don't answer calls. There are a few good ones, but not enough. The activities are minimal with no budget. Residents have had bed bugs and German cockroaches. That is when my daughter left that facility. I would highly not recommend this place until they have a complete overhaul, and for that they will need a lot of money going into it!
If you’re thinking about putting a loved one at this facility don’t do it. My father has been here for over a year now and his health has declined to the point that when we came to visit we took him to the ER you could tell by looking at him and his breathing that he wasn’t well. He got admitted to the hospital and will not be going back to this death trap ever again. They’ve had no AC for over a year now. We also would have to bring his things home to wash because there laundry area is out of service. The administration is very unprofessional with the worst one being the CEO herself. They use to have cameras at the front desk monitoring the memory care floor and surrounding areas. Now they have all that locked up so on the weekends no one is monitoring those cameras. God forbid something should happen. The memory care unit is normally very dirty and they even have one of the residents at the dining room table with a pillow under there head. Very disturbing. I’ve asked repeatedly for my father’s med list because he says they cut his meds down. Still never got it. I was also told by one of the employees that they normally find his meds under the bed. It blows my mind that there not watching a pt who has dementia take there meds. Theres so much more I can say but I’ll leave it here. PLEASE DON’T PUT YOUR LOVED ONE HERE!!!!!
Run and keep going. Do not bother with this facility. I've been trying to figure out what they're doing to my mother for months and I've been shuffled around to three different directors with no answers. I can't get the agreement, I can't get contacts for doctors, I can't get them to confirm they're doing anything for my mother, who by all means is living in squalor while I pay an outside facility to clean her room. All reports indicate that the staff are stealing from her and that her room key (THAT SHE HAS) does not work, and has not worked for months, and they refuse to fix, even when I agree to pay an extra fee for a NEW KEY that she ALREADY HAS. I have the current caretakers, that I have hired out of my own pockets, to label and date each bag of laundry that the facility refuses to take care of, I have an incredible amount of photo and video evidence of their failure to do anything other then twiddle their thumbs and do nothing.
I had to make an emergency move of my sister in Volusia County from a poorly managed assisted living place. My (sister’s) Humana Case Manager set up an appointment with Alba Court in New Symrna Beach. From the second you walk through the front doors there is an atmosphere of friendliness and happy people from residents and employees. My initial meeting was with Admissions Director, Jake. He showed both myself and my sister nothing, but care, compassion and professionalism. (what a breath of fresh air!). Jake came through like a champ to help us in our situation to make the move happen quickly and seamlessly. It was a overwhelmingly mentally and emotionally stressed situation for myself, but I definitely felt supported to get through this predicament.
I would like to state without hesitation that I have taken aback and actually have experienced interactions with the staff at Alba Court and find they are people with caring hearts that put the needs of their residents first. This has been displayed to us by their professionalism, empathy and compassion from top down - the Facility Administrator, Rylanda to Resident Care Director, Stephanie to Admissions Director, Jake, to Mental Health Counselor, Trisha to Caregiver, Dominique to Front Desk Greeters – Taylor and Debbie, to my sister’s floor’s Housekeeper, Brandi and all the kitchen/dinning staff.
My sister has only been there for a short time and both of us have already had positive interactions from all these people! Also Alba Court provides many activities to keep their residents engaged. Also, my sister always brags about the variety and how great the meals they serve each day – definitely a huge plus! I live over 1,040 miles away, but feel completely confident and comforted to know my sister’s well being and happiness are met, she is well-cared for and her needs are met. More than 5 stars and plus should be given to Alba Court!
My mother was at Alba for 3 years, she passed away here (hospice) 10/9/24. My mother's wedding ring was stolen off her finger by some $16 an hour attendant. Her perfume was gone as well. Attendants wear house slippers. Unprofessional! They walk in droves of 2 or 3 attendants at a time yet complain their too busy. Food is full of salt and loaded with sugar. Not healthy here, emotionally or physically.
